Holidays in Kamena Vourla
Kamena Vourla is in Fthiotida, on the Maliakos gulf, with Mount Knimida behind it and the island of Evia across the water. It is about 175 km from Athens and 40 km from Lamia, close enough for a weekend.
The sea
The town runs along the coast and the beach is right across from the hotel. In summer the day is split between the sea and the seafront road with its cafés and tavernas.
Thermal springs
Kamena Vourla made its name with its springs. The water was studied in the 1920s for its radon content, and the town became one of the best-known spa towns in Greece. The baths still operate.
Around the town
From here many places are an easy trip:
- Lichadonisia: small islands with clear water, by boat from the marina
- Monastery of the Transfiguration: 4 km above the town, overlooking the gulf
- Mount Kallidromo: fir forest, walking paths and mountain villages
- Thermopylae: about 24 km towards Lamia
